The sensor (1) has a sensor structure (20) attached on a carrier (10), and a heating element (30) attached on the carrier for heating the sensor structure. An isolation structure (40) partially covers the heating element and the sensor structure. The isolation structure is provided for chemical and/or electrical isolating of the heating element and the sensor structure. The isolation structure is made of aluminum oxide, and the sensor structure is operated at a pre-determined surrounding area temperature. The heating element and the sensor structure exhibit a common mass connector. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing the soot sensor.
