摘要

Diesel engine exhaust particulate matter (DPM) is discussed as a potential threat to public health.Thus the reduction of DPM emissions is a central aim in the development of new diesel engines and emission control systems.To support the development of efficient novel techniques,detailed knowledge of the physico-chemical properties of engine exhaust particles (composition,size,microstructure,reactivity) and well defined laboratory experiments are required.For laboratory studies model substances like spark discharge soot (PALAS) or large polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (e.g.hexabenzocoronene,HBC) can be used.The aim of the present study is a comprehensive characterization of the particulate matter emitted by modern heavy duty diesel engines compared to relevant model soot substances.
