The method involves controlling and/or monitoring members (A-E) i.e. field devices e.g. sensors and actuators, of a radio network, where one of the members (A) is operated in respective operating modes. Data with updating rates is transmitted by the member in the operating modes. A portion of the data that is transmitted, during one of the modes, is received by another member (B) of a radio network. The data that is received by the latter member is evaluated, and a characteristic value determines the quality of data transmission and is delivered to a user. An independent claim is also included for a device for operating the radio network in the industrial process environment.
