The method involves determining global quality level of transmission between a source node and a destination node in a mesh communication network by considering a set of transmission links used or to be used for implementing a network coding. A transmission mode with or without implementation of the network coding is selected based on the comparison of the global quality level of transmission with a predetermined threshold. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for reception of a data packet by a destination node from a source node in a mesh communication network (2) a transmitted signal formed of a data packet (3) a computer program product comprising a set of instructions for implementing steps of a transmission method and a reception method (4) a storage medium for storing a set of instructions (5) a device for transmission of a data packet from a source node to a destination node in a mesh communication network (6) a destination node receiving a data packet from a source node.
