The device (2) has friction linings (10, 12) for forming a frictional contact between a gear wheel (4) and a shaft (8) of a drive train. The gear wheel and the shaft are releasably engageable by the friction linings based on parameters, where the parameters are selected from one of a group consisting of speed, noise, temperature and/or torque. The parameters are detected by a sensor i.e. temperature sensor. The friction linings are adjustable to and from the shaft. Balance weights (14, 16) are arranged at the friction linings. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for attenuating a drive train of a motor vehicle (2) a computer program comprising a set of instructions for performing a method for attenuating a drive train of a motor vehicle (3) a computer program product comprising a set of instructions for performing a method for attenuating a drive train of a motor vehicle.
