Preparing inorganic-oxide particles, which are least partially coated with carbon, comprises at least partially functionalizing particles comprising metal or metalloid oxides, metal or metalloid hydroxides and/or acids of the metal or metalloid or their polymer mixtures at least on its surface with chlorine, converting the chloro-functionalized particles into the gas phase or in solution with an organic chemical nucleophile with at least 3 carbon atoms per molecule and pyrolyzing the reaction product in a non-oxidizing atmosphere. Independent claims are also included for: (1) the inorganic oxide particles, which are least partially coated with carbon on its surface, obtained by the above mentioned method; and (2) a rubber mixture or a rubber product with a filler comprising the particles.
