The method involves producing, by a processing unit (28), an identification data including a unique identifier for a semiconductor product and/or a production material i.e. lead frame (16) such that the semiconductor product or the lead frame can be backtracked based on the unique identifier. The identification data produced by the processing unit is forwarded to a printer (12), and the identification data is printed on the lead frame by inkjet printing. An independent claim is also included for a backtracking system for use during a semiconductor product manufacturing process, comprising a processing unit.
