The method involves mapping information structures (2) of graphic-haptic interaction in a world wide web to information structures (3) of a semantic world model using a specifiable topic-based semantic world model (4). The information structures of the semantic world model are mapped to information structures (5) of multi-modal interaction in a car using a topic-based specifiable interaction model (6), where extraction of information from the information structures of multi-modal interaction is performed via speech dialogs. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for speech-based external information retrieval in a car (2) a computer program product for speech-based external information retrieval in a car.
