The device has a structural member (2) positioned in a housing (4) that is located in an area before a windscreen (3) in a direction of travel of a vehicle (1) under a bonnet (5). The structural member is automatically pushed out of an opening of the housing and positioned over a section of the windscreen when impact caused by a pedestrian is detected. A sealing element (6) is arranged for sealing of an engine compartment of the vehicle. The structural member is coupled with the bonnet.
