The electrochemical mercury-free hydrogen cell comprises a metal anode, an electrolytes and a gas diffusion electrode, where the metal anode comprises zinc as main ingredient with additives of indium and bismuth. The electrolyte comprises materials such as corrosion inhibitors, surface-active substances, and viscosity formers. An inner surface of a current conductor directed to the metal anode comprises a coating with copper/zinc- and/or copper/tin- and/or a copper/zinc/tin alloy. The indium and bismuth has a concentration of 100-1000 ppm and grain sizes of 1-500 mu m.
