The hot water supply system has 2 parallel line sections (1,2) between the heating system (15), used for heating the hot water and a hot water delivery point (12), one line section containing a temperature sensor (7) adjacent the hot water delivery point, the same or the other line section containing a demand sensor (8) and a pump (4), a reversible connection between the line sections provided by a valve. An independent claim for a valve for opening and closing a connection between parallel line sections in a hot water supply system is also included.
