An Environmental Control System comprises an air cycle machine (26) having a first turbine (22), a second turbine (24), and a compressor (20) mounted between the first turbine (22) and second turbine (24). It further comprises a RAM air fan system (76,78) in communication with the air cycle machine (26), the RAM air fan system (76.78) located remotely from said air cycle machine (26). The compressor (20) is upstream of the first turbine (22) and said second turbine (24). The RAM air fan system (76,78) is in communication with the compressor (20), is driven independently of the air cycle machine (26) and is located downstream of a heat exchanger.
