This waffle iron comprises at least one lower cooking plate (6) intended to occupy, in use, a substantially horizontal position, and having an impression which, facing upwards and comprising crossed grooves delimiting blocks, is intended for receiving a waffle dough, at least one upper cooking plate (5), intended to occupy, in use condition, a substantially horizontal position, and having an indentation facing downwards, the two cooking plates (5, 6 ) being, in the closed position, resting against each other in a horizontal joint plane, with care for a space between the impressions of the two cooking plates (5, 6), this waffle iron being remarkable in that the depth of the cavity of the upper cooking plate (5) is smaller than the depth of the grooves of the cavity of the lower cooking plate (6).
