METHOD FOR MAINTAINING GENETIC STABILITY OF INBRED ANIMAL STRAIN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide new methods of maintaining genetic stability of non-human animal inbred strains.;SOLUTION: In the methods, pedigree-tracked cryopreserved embryos derived from a foundation colony are produced and used to re-establish the foundation colony at appropriate intervals. The method of maintaining genetic stability of a non-human animal inbred strain includes steps of: (a) maintaining the foundation colony for the inbred strain; (b) producing a pedigree-tracked stock of cryopreserved embryos derived from the foundation colony; (c) producing live animals from cryopreserved embryos of the pedigree-tracked stock; (d) selecting a brother-sister pair from the live animals to be used as a new founder pair to re-establish the foundation colony; and (e) repeating steps (c) to (d) at appropriate intervals, thereby maintaining genetic stability of the inbred strain.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
