PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic flaw detecting technique using an ultrasonic flaw detector and the Lorentz force capable of identifying correctly defect positions of piping with high workability and, for example, implementing life assessment of thermal electric power plant with a high degree of accuracy. PSOLUTION: The ultrasonic flaw detector includes a plurality of transmitters 11 deployed on a circle with gaps in the middle of length direction outside of a metal piping 13 to be flaw-explored, a transmitter transmitting guide wave making the Lorentz force as drive power from each transmitters 11 by running through synchronized AC current through them, receivers 12 making a pair with each transmitter to be deployed with gaps for each transmitter 11 at the middle of length direction outside of a metal piping 13 and receiving echo signal of guide wave transmitted at each transmitter 11, an amplifier amplifying echo signal therefrom, and a defect position detecting means 22 detecting defect positions of the metal piping 13 using digital signaled output of the amplifier as input.
