PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of preventing the intrusion of foreign matter such as sand into a gear of a gear box when a platen roller is removed from the gear box, and a portable terminal unit in which the printer is built.;SOLUTION: This printer is equipped with a first cover opening/closing mechanism which moves a first cover 4 from a closing position to an opening one by the operation of bringing a second gear 5 of the platen roller 1 close to a first gear 3 of the gear box 2 when the platen roller 1 is attached the gear box 2, and which moves the first cover 4 from the opening position to the closing position by the operation of separating the second gear 5 of the platen roller 1 from the first gear 3 of the gear box 2 when the platen roller 1 is removed from the gear box 2.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
