PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily manufacturing a regenerated hydrotreatment catalyst having satisfactory activity and a method for producing a petroleum product by using the regenerated hydrotreatment catalyst obtained by the manufacturing method.;SOLUTION: The used hydrotreatment catalyst comprising at least one metal selected from the group consisting of group 6 metals and metals of group 8 to group 10 in the periodic table is regenerated. The regenerated catalyst is subjected to an X-ray diffraction analysis and/or an X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic analysis of metal pieces to judge whether the regenerated catalyst is to be recovered.
