Television receiver and remaining capacity management method

PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a receiver to grasp the remaining capacity of an external recording device for presenting to a user without turning on the power of the external recording device, such as a hard disk recorder, without acquiring a status from the external recording device, and hence without keeping the user waiting, and to prevent and reduce recording failure caused by the shortage in the remaining capacity. PSOLUTION: The CPU (Central Processing Unit) of the receiver records data on an HDR (Hard Disk Recorder), and records the remaining capacity of the HDR on a nonvolatile memory in the receiver, when the data are deleted from the HDR. When the power of the receiver is turned on, the CPU of the receiver writes the remaining capacity recorded on the nonvolatile memory into a main memory as the remaining capacity on the nonvolatile memory and as the newest remaining capacity. In this state, when the user selects the HDR to be recorded by recording reservation, the CPU of the receiver displays the newest remaining capacity of the HDR on the main memory on a reservation setting screen.
