CRT makers boost capacities targeted at TV receivers and monitors

Mainland China makers of CRTs are increasing their production capacities. Demand for CRTs is growing, riding on the crest of brisk sales of TV receivers and monitors. Thomson (Foshan) CPT Co. Ltd invests $51 million in a production line that will crank out 1 million units of 34-inch and 36-inch high-definition CRTs annually, says Zhu Yongjie, sales agent. Meanwhile, LG.Philips Shuguang Electronics Co. Ltd has expanded its production capacity for CDTs by 20 percent, spurred by the boom in the computer sector. Local makers expect that demand worldwide will propel the industry to a 5 percent growth this year. Optimism also runs high that the growth trend will carry on through 2010.
