A method of screening and dewatering hard-to-classify materials includes supply of initial material on sifting surfaces, sifting and moving the material by gravity and vibration, as well as additional mechanical action, which varies in time. According to the method, the material to be separated and liquid are subject in local areas to the action of normal and shear pulses, which are changed along the length of screening surface.
