A surgical anchoring apparatus, comprising: a member (10) body defining a passageway longitudinal body extending along a longitudinal axis of the body member, including the body member section (200) expandable adapted to undergo a transition between a first initial condition and a second expanded state; an element (300) dilator that can be at least partially positionable within the longitudinal passageway of the body member, and which is dimensioned to cause the expandable section undergoes a transition to the second expanded condition during insertion of the dilator element in the longitudinal passage, to thereby facilitate securement of the body member relative to tissue, the dilator element defining a conduit (308) longitudinal dilator for reception and passage of a surgical object; and a seal (400) mounted relative to the dilator element, the seal being adapted to establish a relationship of substantial seal with the surgical object received in the dilator element, wherein the section (200) expandable includes a thread (210) external helical adapted to facilitate advancement of the body member within tissue when the body member is in the first initial condition.
