A diesel engine (10) operates by alternative diesel combustion. This causes the systemsto be controlled by compensated data values IVC, Mf that produce predictedtime .theta.AI of auto-ignition and resulting torque TQAI in the presence ofany such disturbance .delta.IMT, .delta.EGR.
