The invention pertains to a device for influencing the temperaturedistributionover the width of a slab or a strip, particularly in hot strip rolling mill,wherein atleast one cooling device is provided that features nozzles for applying acoolingmedium, wherein the nozzles are arranged and/or actuated in such a way thatthe cooling medium is applied, in particular, at positions at which anelevatedtemperature is determined. The invention furthermore pertains to a device forinfluencing the state of the surface evenness of the strip by means of stripcooling, wherein the cooling device is controlled in dependence on the stateofsurface evenness of the strip in such a way that the surface unevenness isreduced or eliminated. In addition, this invention makes it possible topurposefully influence the strip contour, wherein the strip or the slab iscooledwidthwise in such a way that the strip contour approximates a desired targetcontour more closely.
