The subject matter of the invention is a method for the detection of irreversible DNA damage, characterized in that it comprises the following steps: obtaining a suspension of isolated cells by dissociation of a pluricellular system, recovering and treating the cells, and measuring the amount of micronuclei formed in the cells. The invention relates more particularly to a method for the measurement of the genotoxic effects of compounds, and also to the uses thereof in particular for detecting, analysing and/or studying the toxicity of compounds on humans or the environment, or for evaluating the therapeutic efficacy of compounds, in particular for evaluating the efficacy of chemotherapeutic or anticancer substances or else for evaluating the efficacy of water or sludge treatment methods.
