The method involves representing access authority in an object model that has a hierarchical tree structure. The access authority is acknowledged for a computer-based object by the help of control data file (103). A relevant sub-tree of the object model is determined by access instruction service. The control data file is generated from the determined relevant sub-tree. The generated control data file is made available for a selected network node or for access of the computer-based object. An independent claim is included for a computer program for granting an access authority, which is loadable in a main memory of a computer.
