Reed-Solomon encoder with simplified Galois field multipliers

A Reed-Solomon encoder contains a bank of k multipliers for multiplying a common feedback value Y by each of the coefficients G0...Gk-1 of the generator polynomial. The processing amount and the circuit size are reduced by calculating once the products of the feedback value with powers of a primitive element alpha, hence yielding partial terms and by using the partial terms in each of the k multipliers. Each multiplier contains an array of AND gates with inputs for the partial products and for the coefficients of the generator polynomial, and contains an array of XOR gates for adding the outputs of the AND gates.
