Food display unit for a supermarket

The device i.e. display shelf (2), has an open box (4) for receiving food products, and a base for supporting the box. The box includes a loading surface (6) and edges for forming a load volume. The loading surface is adjustable in height and/or in inclination with respect to the remaining part of the box using insert elements i.e. rectangular section profiles, arranged between the loading surface and the bottom of the box. Lateral faces and edges of the loading surface are made of folded sheet metal.
