PURPOSE: An electric parking brake system and a control method thereof are provided to improve the control performance by preventing the excessive operation and prevent the malfunction of a motor and a component due to the excessive operation.;CONSTITUTION: An electric parking brake system comprises a parking switch unit(21), a motor(M) and a control unit(22). The parking switch unit commands the parking of a vehicle. The motor generates the braking power when braking a vehicle. The control unit determines the operating number of a parking switch operated for a predetermined time based on the parking command inputted from the parking switch unit.
