PURPOSE: A vice for a machine tool is provided to prevent the floating of a work piece, caused by the clamping force, by making the clamping force act downward. CONSTITUTION: A vice for a machine tool comprises first and second support members(110,210), a moving member(310), and a screw shaft(410). The first support member is installed on an upper side of a bed(102) of the machine tool. The second support member is installed on the bed, separate from the first support member, and allowed to slide and has a fixed jaw(240). The moving member is installed between the first and second support members and allowed to slide and has a movable jaw(320) The screw shaft is inserted in the first support member and coupled to the moving member.
