PURPOSE: An off-board 2 shift drawer type automatic tool replacing unit for a double column type small tapping center is provided to minimize a size and weight of a tool replacing unit frame and to prevent a malfunction of upper and lower fingers. CONSTITUTION: An off-board 2 shift drawer type automatic tool replacing unit(100) for a double column type small tapping center comprises an automatic tool replacing unit(100) and a controller. The automatic tool replacing unit comprises a tool replacing unit frame(110), an upper plate(120), an upper finger(130), an upper tool transferring unit, an upper advance detection sensor(150), an upper backward sensor(151), a lower plate(160), a lower finger(170), a lower tool transferring unit, a lower advance detection sensor, and a lower backward sensor. The lower advance detection sensor and lower backward detection sensor sense the advance and backward of the lower plate. Driving of the lower tool transferring unit is stopped when the lower plate is transferred out of an area for the advance and backward.
