A portable terminal for tracking a pupil position of a user and a method therefor are provided to track a real position of a pupil of a user by setting a certain reference point as an origin in a photographing picture in which a camera of the portable terminal photographs a user, calculating a coordinate value of a point in which the pupil of the user is photographed, and calculating an angle of the pupil from the origin by using the calculated coordinate value. A camera unit(110) photographs a pupil of a user. An XY axis coordinate calculating unit(120) sets a certain reference point of the photographing picture including the photographed pupil of the user as an origin, sets a position of a central point of the photographed pupil of the user as the first point, and calculates an X axis coordinate value and a Y axis coordinate value of the first point. A Z axis coordinate calculating unit(130) calculates a Z axis coordinate value for the position of the central point of the pupil of the user on the basis of a size of the photographed pupil of the user. An XYZ axis angle calculating unit(140) calculates an X axis angle, a Y axis angle, and a Z axis angle from the X axis coordinate value, the Y axis coordinate value, and the Z axis coordinate value of the central point of the pupil of the user calculated in the XY axis coordinate calculating unit(120) and the Z axis coordinate calculating unit(130).
