Collagen with specified proline to hydroxyproline ratio and glycosylation degree as measured by the ratio of disaccharides to monosaccharides, useful as wound gel for treating wounds, and for tissue engineering
Collagen with specified proline to hydroxyproline ratio and glycosylation degree as measured by the ratio of disaccharides to monosaccharides, useful as wound gel for treating wounds, and for tissue engineering
Collagen with a ratio of proline to hydroxyproline of at least 1.9:1 and a glycosylation degree as measured by the ratio of disaccharides to monosaccharides of at least 75:1, is claimed. An independent claim is included for producing collagen, comprising: crushing at least a Cnidaria; soaking the crushed Cnidaria in acetic acid; digesting the crushed Cnidaria with pepsin; neutralizing the acetic acid solution; precipitating the collagen by the addition of sodium phosphate or disodium hydrogen phosphate to a concentration of 0.2 M, and precipitating the remaining dissolved collagen by adding collagen potassium chloride to a concentration of 17.5 wt./vol.% or precipitating the collagen by adding sodium chloride to a concentration of 17.5 wt./vol.%, and precipitating the remaining dissolved collagen by adding sodium phosphate or disodium hydrogen phosphate to a concentration of 0.2 M, and neutralizing the acid solution; centrifuging the solution to at least 5000 g; and removing the collagen as a pellet. - ACTIVITY : Vulnerary. - MECHANISM OF ACTION : None given.
