The buckle (10) has a locking mechanism (14) arranged within a housing for locking a belt tongue by electric conductors (21, 22). A movable release button (16) unlocks the locking mechanism. A key actuator (20) exhibits switching positions, where the switching positions are determined based on a condition whether the belt tongue is latched in the locking mechanism. A luminous element i.e. LED, is arranged on the buckle for supplying power, where one of the electric conductors serves as a power source of the luminous element.
