The belt pretensioner (1) has a ferromagnetic element (7) is fixedly connected with one end of a belt rope (3). A seat belt buckle (2) is connected to other end of the belt rope. A vehicle-fixed electromagnet (8) is supplied with current for the tensioning of the belt. The electromagnet is formed as the coil surrounded around the ferromagnetic element which acts as core.
