The tool has clamping elements (11,12) with clamping surfaces (13,14) that hold a piston (10) by applying clamping force on piston. The clamping surfaces are directed radially outward, so as to produce a radially outward directed clamping force. The clamping surfaces are engaged with radial inner surface (15) of piston trough (16) of the piston. An independent claim is included for method for assembling piston in crankcase of internal combustion engine.
