The breaker has a switch unit interrupting an electric circuit. A sensor unit detects magnitude of a current value, where the magnitude of the current value is current flowing through the electric circuit. A control unit controls the switch unit in dependence of the detected value to interrupt the electric circuit. A release curve (K) is defined in the control unit, where the curve assigns a time duration to the detected value after lapse of the switch unit is controlled to interrupt the electric circuit. An independent claim is also included for a method for interrupting an electrical circuit.
