The method involves generating a partial image from a segmented ultrasonic scan of a fetal head by using a color flow processor (108) and graphic processor (110), where the partial image has edges. Ventricle is identified within the image by estimating a cost function for the edges, and the length of a biparietal diameter is estimated partially based on the alignment of the ventricle. Parameters within the partial image are identified, and the identified parameters are compared with a statistical model. Evaluation number is assigned to the partial image based on the comparison result. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an ultrasonic image giving system for estimating gestational age of fetus (2) a computer program product with a computer-readable medium for executing a method for estimating gestational age of fetus.
