The method involves determining actual fuel efficiency of a furnace based on energy requirement that is measured at a predetermined time. A theoretical energy requirement of the furnace is calculated during operation of the furnace. The furnace is modified by using technical measures that are selected from a group that comprises mounting of an economizer for pre-warming of combustion air, aeration suppression, mounting of a speed adjusted fan for combustion air, mounting a desalination controller in a kettle, mounting an oxygen controller and mounting a carbon mono-oxide controller.
