The method involves operating electrical components (14, 18) in an operating mode by a control device when temperature of the components exceeds a predetermined threshold value, and operating the components in another operating mode when the temperature of the components falls below the threshold value. The components are operated, such that the components produce higher power dissipation in the latter mode than in the former mode. The components are thermally coupled with a cooling medium circuit (12) of a motor vehicle.
