The method involves recording frequency distribution of an operational parameter of a motor car during a practice operation. A functional dependency of characteristics is defined for the operational parameter in a form of a map. A set of predetermined values of an optimization parameter is defined. Resultant characteristics for the predetermined values of the optimization parameter are computed by summation of the characteristics of the operational parameter based on the recorded distribution. An optimum value of the optimization parameter is determined from the resultant characteristics. The operation parameter is rotation speed or rotational torque of a combustion engine, and the characteristics of the operational parameter is fuel consumption of a combustion engine. The optimization parameter is chosen from a group consisting of a shifting speed limit of an automatic transmission, rotation speed usage parameter and/or rotation torque usage parameter.
