The method involves searching a set of values of variables e.g. reference point, to which a system i.e. heat engine, is stable by determining a set of values of variables and evaluating the stability of the system for the set of values. Another set of values of variables leading to optimal value of an operational parameter of the system is determined from the former set of values by determining the value of the operational parameter, where the value of the operational parameter is biased if the system is unstable. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a data medium comprising a software for implementing optimization method (2) an optimizing device comprising a determination unit for determining value of a parameter.
