The assembly (10) has a toothed disk (14) arranged laterally to a pinion (12), where the toothed disk and the pinion have same diameter. The pinion and the toothed disk are engaged with another pinion of a reserve gear of a vehicle to determine gear backlash compensation. The toothed disk has number of teeth greater than number of teeth of the former pinion. An axially elastic washer (16) is inserted between the toothed disk and the former pinion such that the toothed disk co-operates with the pinion by friction. An independent claim is also included for a gearbox for a vehicle i.e. automobile, comprising a gear mesh device.
