The furnace (100) has a single tubular housing (110) comprising an opening (112) and a crucible (123). A plate (121) for sealing the housing comprises an inner face (121a) and an outer face (121b). An electrical heating element (122) is provided toward an inner side of the furnace and heated by conduction and radiation. A set of electrodes (124, 125) is mounted through the plate for sealing the housing. The electrodes are electrically connected to the heating element and an electrical generator. The heating element is provided in the form of cylinder. An independent claim is also included for a system comprising a furnace.
