PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a total reflection type polarizing beam splitter having a wide incident angle allowable width and wavelength range, and having a high extinction ratio.;SOLUTION: A total reflection type polarizing beam splitter 100 for polarizing and splitting incident light I using a total reflection includes: a first prism material 11 and a second prism material 12 that are formed into an isosceles right triangular prism shape; a plate material 21 clamped between an inclined plane 11a of the first prism material 11 and an inclined plane 12a of the second prism material 12; and anti-reflection films 31 disposed between the first prism material 11 and the plate material 21, and between the second prism material 12 and the plate material 21 respectively. The first prism material 11 and the plate material 21, and the second prism material 12 and the plate material 21 are joined together by optical contact via the anti-reflection films 31 respectively, and the first prism material 11, the second prism material 12, and the plate material 21 are formed of an anisotropic material having an optical axis in the direction which does not match the incident direction of the incident light I.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT
