PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a low triphenylphosphate, high phosphorous content isopropyl phenyl phosphate with high ortho alkylation, which is suitable for use as a flame retardant.;SOLUTION: A method includes: reacting a flow of alkyl-substituted phenol with POCl3 in the presence of a first catalyst in a temperature range of 80-210°C to generate a first reaction product, removing excess POCl3 from the first reaction product, and (i) reacting the resulting first reaction product with an alcohol in the presence of a second catalyst in a temperature range of 90-260°C, or (ii) successively reacting it with two or more alcohols in the presence of the second catalyst in a temperature range of 70-260°C, or (iii) reacting it with a first alcohol to thereby generate a product in which the reaction proceeds to some extent and further reacting the product with a second alcohol, in which the addition of the second alcohol is not performed until the first alcohol is consumed.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT
