Effect of Isopropyl Alcohol and Activated Carbon on Producing Sodium Hypophosphite by Phosphorous Sludge

Phosphorus sludge is one kind of harmful waste from the yellow phosphorus industrial production. It can cause serious pollution to the environment. It was used to be a kind of raw material to produce sodium hypophosphite. However, phosphorus sludge is hard to decompose, so dispersing agent has to be added to increase the productive rate of sodium hypophosphite. Four kinds of dispersing agents are selected and compared in this paper, and then isopropyl alcohol and activated carbon are selected to be better conformable. The following results can be concluded as the optimum reaction condition of isopropyl alcohol and activated carbon: the most appropriate addition of isopropyl alcohol is 10mL/20g and the activated carbon is 6g/20g, the temperature is 85¿, the ratio of water to phosphorus is 110:1 and the ratio of alkali to phosphorus is 4.0:1.
