PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a periodic error detection method and periodic error detection circuit capable of surely detecting processing time excess of periodic processing.SOLUTION: A periodic error detection method of an embodiment, in a system including a capture timer 1 having a counter 11 and register 12, respectively stores in the register 12, a first count value cnt1 obtained by acquiring a periodic trigger outputted from a peripheral circuit 110 as a capture trigger CTG1, a second count value cnt2 acquired by applying a capture trigger CTG2 at a processing start of a module 120, and a third count value cnt3 acquired by applying a capture trigger CTG3 at a processing end of the module 120. A processor 100 reads, when receiving a completion notice from the module 120, the cnt1, cnt2, cnt3 from the register 12, calculates a processing time of the module 120 on the basis of the values, and compares the values with a prescribed period to determine the existence/nonexistence of the occurrence of a periodic processing error.
