Provided is a highly accurate abbreviation generation device not requiring a special professional knowledge or enormous labor. The abbreviation generation device (101) includes: a word analysis unit (11) which analyzes a word in a feature amount sequence; and an abbreviation generation unit (12) which generates an abbreviation of a word from a feature amount sequence as a result of the word analysis by using an abbreviation generation model (14) in which the feature amount sequence is statistically modeled in advance. The abbreviation generation unit (12) uses a label model which attaches a label to characters constituting an abbreviation as an abbreviation generation model. The abbreviation-constituting characters may be characters constituting a written word, moras, or reading.
