PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a submarine cable capable of realizing both of sufficient flexibility and a high water shielding property.;SOLUTION: A wire core 13 for power inside a submarine cable 3 comprises a conductor part 15, an insulation part 17, a shield layer 19, a water shielding layer 21, a corrosion-proof layer 22 and the like. The insulation part 17 is provided on an outer peripheral part of the conductor part 15. The insulation part 17 is made of, for example, crosslinked polyethylene. The shield layer 19 is provided on an outer periphery of the insulation part 17. The water shielding layer 21 is provided on an outer peripheral part of the shield layer 19. The water shielding layer 21 is made of a multi-layer tape 30, in which a metallic layer 31 is sandwiched between resin layers 33a, 33b. The corrosion-proof layer 22 is provided on an outer peripheral part of the water shielding layer 21.
