A brake device includes a first member (4) having holders (42), each of the holder configured to be in contact with a corresponding rolling body (41) and hold the rolling body (41) rotatably; a second member (5) provided in contact with the rolling body (41) and configured to rotate the rolling body (41) in the holder (42) according to a relative displacement with the first member (4); and a pressing mechanism (3) configured to press the first member (4) and the second member (5) against each other. This makes it possible appropriately to set performance regardless of, for example, a projecting area of a surface of the first member (4), the surface being pressed by the second member (5).
